Ok, this is NOT a get rich scheme. If you are looking for some magic bullet to make $100,000 dollars in a week you might want to try another blog because that is a secret I do not possess.

If you are a brand owner trying to figure out how to automate at least one piece of the sales puzzle - this blog is for you. I am going to walk through the key elements you need to have in place to create a great Welcome Flow that can make sales for your brand while you are doing literally anything else.

First, I want to run through a few milestones you + your brand need to have passed. If this isn’t you - keep reading, the steps in this blog will be helpful to have in the back of your mind as you grow your online brand.

  1. You have a website that allows customers or clients to look at and purchase products or services

  2. Your products or services are being actively purchased through your website (even if your sales are slow)

  3. You are getting some online traffic to your website

  4. You are ready to learn a little bit about pop ups and email flows

If you said “Yes!” to all 4 assumptions then you are ready to get crackin’…

Here are the 2 major things I did to help my client go from $3,200 in sales from a Welcome Flow in 6 months to $5,000 in sales from a NEW Welcome Flow in JUST 90 days!

  1. Offered LESS

Guess what - we decided their new opt-in offer was going to be LESS than the original opt-in offer (i.e. their old offer was for $15 off an order of $50+, the new offer was for $10 off an order of $75+.)

  2. Communicated MORE

Yup, the initial email flow running the 6 months prior only sent 2 emails - the discount code + 1 reminder. While sending a reminder email is GREAT - 2 emails is not enough time for a customer to feel like they know your brand and make a purchase from you. The new email flow was a total of 5 emails

Now, we had some things working with us, they have a great product and they were getting quality quite traffic coming to their website - BUT those are things you can do, too!

Create a Welcome Flow that makes your brand money

I hope you like lists, because the easiest way for you to tackle creating a Welcome Flow yourself is to start checking things off a list.

  1. Create an account with an email automation platform that integrates with your website.

I like Klaviyo, MailerLite, ActiveCampaign, and Omnisend. I would discourage you from MailChimp as the other platforms are going to be easier to work with in the long run (no hate to the ‘Chimp, just not a great tool for what we are doing here). It’s SO important that you find an email platform that easily integrates with your website to prevent you from issues down the road. To do this you can just search their blogs or resources for “integration with [YOUR WEBSITE PLATFORM]” and see what comes up.

2. Decide on an opt-in offer.

Your opt-in offer is the little freebie/bonus you’re gifting to your customers. It should 1) be easily understood by your customer; 2) something of value; 3) profitable for you; 4) encourage sales. Some examples of offers I have used in the past include: $10 off an order of $75 or more; FREE access for 30 days to a platform; $50 off a membership of $100; $50 of a product of $300+.

3. Create a pop up with your offer.

Deciding your offer is the hard part, the easy part is creating a pop up for your website with the offer. You’ll want to make sure you ask for an email address and possibly a first name. Then you’ll add the pop up to your website. This step is why it’s important to make sure your email platform integrates with your website - otherwise you’ll have a mess on your hands.

4. Write your Welcome Email flow

I like to have a Welcome Flow of 5 emails, that just seems to be my sweet spot. Your first email needs to have the opt-in offer in it - whether that’s a discount code, downloadable e-book, instructions on how to access a free account, or how to set up an account. Your next few emails should let your audience get to know your brand. Make sure your final email reminds subscribers to take advantage of the opt-in offer before it expires if they haven’t already.

5. Test your flow

This part can feel useless - but TRUST me when I say testing your email flow is so, so, important. Things just hit different when you see them in your inbox. And the only way to know if the download or discount code works in real time is to test it!
